The Challenge of Translating Dense Menus to Mobile Feeds

Restaurant Menu to Social Post

Printed dining menus rely on expansive spatial layouts, subtle linen textures, and delicate serif typography that immediately collapse when scaled down onto handheld smartphone viewports.

When our partner bistro sought to publicize their seasonal autumn dinner menu, simple photos of the folded paper card produced cluttered, unreadable graphics in social feeds. Guests could neither decipher ingredient lists nor immediately spot signature pairings, causing high bounce rates on promotional campaigns.

Our objective was to dismantle the entire printed carte without abandoning the venue's distinctive bistro atmosphere. We rebuilt their offerings into modular, thumb-friendly assets optimized for instant visual digestion across Instagram feeds and story channels.

Modular Decomposition & Typographical Hierarchy

Instead of forcing a ten-course menu onto a single digital canvas, we developed a carousel breakdown system that prioritizes culinary pacing and immediate pricing transparency:

  • Isolated signature entrées and seasonal highlights into high-impact spotlight cards with macro photography.
  • Increased core font weights and adjusted tracking to maintain razor-sharp legibility on 375px screens.
  • Converted dense multi-column wine lists into swipeable, color-coded carousel slides grouped by region.
  • Integrated dedicated visual tags for dietary considerations such as vegan, gluten-free, and pairing options.

This systematic decoupling allowed the kitchen staff to swap daily fresh ingredients and prices inside the digital layout template within minutes, maintaining complete brand consistency without requiring designer intervention.
